The subsidy decline is forcing, will the lithium-rich manganese base become the mainstream route of power batteries in the future?

Under the pursuit of higher energy density, lithium-rich manganese-based materials with high voltage and high capacity advantages have always been a hot spot in the lithium battery industry.

'Under the background of a sharp decline in subsidies, power batteries will inevitably face greater pressure to reduce costs.' Ai Qun, vice president of Aoyou Power Research Institute, believes that development is low The cost, high energy density and high safety performance of lithium-rich manganese material power batteries are imperative.

On April 12, will you ask for information? And new materials online? At the “2019 China Power Battery Industry Spring Summit Forum”, Ai Qun, deputy dean of AUU Power Research Institute, introduced the advantages of lithium-rich manganese-based materials after subsidies have declined, and discussed the technologies of lithium-rich manganese-based materials. The indicators were interpreted in depth.

Ai Qun first introduced the adjustment of national policy subsidies. In 2019, the subsidy standard declined by about 50% on average; a three-month transition period was set up, during which subsidies were greatly reduced. ; More emphasis is placed on safety and consistency, and the upper limit of energy density has not been pushed up; local subsidies have been explicitly cancelled, and pre-load subsidies for operating vehicles.

On the other hand, from the perspective of the energy density improvement of power batteries, the power batteries gradually transition from liquid electrolyte to gel electrolyte and solid electrolyte. In the post-subsidy era, even when subsidies are completely withdrawn, the economics of technology will be placed in a more critical position.

The birth of lithium-rich manganese was developed in the research process of manganese materials and with the discovery of Li2MnO3. Compared with conventional lithium iron phosphate and three Meta materials, lithium-rich manganese-based batteries have the advantages of high energy density and low price.

However, the mass production of lithium-rich manganese-based batteries also faces many industrialization problems, such as low first charge efficiency; irreversible deoxidation and electrolyte decomposition; poor conductivity and The matching electrolyte is higher than the electrochemical window of the current common electrolyte, which affects the actual performance of the lithium-rich manganese-based battery.

'Aoyou Power improves the performance of lithium-rich manganese-based materials by nanometering and surface modification of material particles to increase electrical conductivity.' Ai Qun said frankly, oxidation Material coating is an effective way to improve the performance of lithium-rich manganese-based materials.

On the other hand, ion doping is also an effective method. Doping reduces the release of active oxygen, stabilizes the material structure, and inhibits the transformation of the layered solid solution structure to the spinel structure.

Ai Qun revealed that after 8 years of painstaking research and development, AUU Power’s Ru0026D team adopted a variety of interface protections such as material doping modification and the application of special additives in high-voltage electrolytes. The solution is to use a variety of composite conductive agents (such as graphene, carbon nanotubes and other highly conductive materials) to improve the rate performance of the material through the nanomaterialization and carbon layer coating technology.

According to our understanding, Aoyou Power’s lithium-rich manganese-based power battery has already made two announcements and is running on a pure electric logistics vehicle with an operating mileage of more than 20,000 kilometers.

'As far as the direction of cathode materials is concerned, lithium-rich manganese-based materials have the relative advantages of high working voltage, high gram capacity, and lower cost than ternary materials.' Ai Group believes that with the maturity of high-voltage electrolyte technology in the future, lithium-rich manganese-based power batteries will surely become the mainstream products of high-specific energy lithium power batteries in the future.

Up to now, Aoyou Power has two production lines in Zhaoqing with a capacity of 3GWh. One of the 1.5GWh production lines has been completed and put into operation, and the Huzhou production line has a capacity of 1.5Gwh. The two production lines are still under commissioning.
