Turning carbon dioxide into a solvent for Baocheng lithium battery electrolyte passed expert appraisal

by:CTECHi     2021-08-18

Carbon dioxide can turn waste into treasure and become a lithium battery electrolyte solvent. Aoke’s 'New Energy Lithium Battery Electrolyte Solvent Project' has achieved this green goal. A few days ago, the 'Green Process for the Preparation of Dimethyl Carbonate (DMC)/Ethylene Glycol' from Carbon Dioxide Catalyzed by Immobilized Ionic Liquid Catalyzed by Aoke and the Institute of Processes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences passed the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association and is composed of a number of academicians. Appraisal of the technical achievements of the Appraisal Committee. According to reports, this technology breaks through the existing problems of high energy consumption, low efficiency, and difficult sewage treatment in the existing DMC and ethylene glycol processes, and realizes the resource utilization of carbon dioxide under mild conditions. The appraisal committee unanimously agreed that: this technological achievement is the world’s first and internationally leading, and it is a successful example of green engineering and green chemistry applications, and opens up new opportunities for the utilization of carbon dioxide resources, the energy saving of the existing ethylene glycol process, and the ethylene oxide industry chain. It has significant economic and social benefits and broad application prospects. The 10,000-ton-class demonstration industrial plant built by Aoke in Yangzhou has been in continuous operation for more than 5 months. The product DMC quality has reached the battery-level standard, and the ethylene glycol quality is better than the national standard. It is reported that DMC has a wide range of applications. In addition to electrolyte, it can also be used to produce environmentally friendly coatings, non-phosgene polycarbonate (PC), and various additives. At present, most of the domestic DMC process and production capacity are based on the transesterification process with propylene oxide (PO) as the raw material. With the future domestic planning and construction of a large number of non-phosgene PC devices and the development of environmental protection coatings, the demand for DMC is expected in the future Continued rapid growth. The new DMC process jointly developed by Oak and Process is not only energy-saving and efficient, but also bypasses the limitation of the PO industry chain, and has a very, very broad market development space.
