48V battery system What are the opportunities in China?

by:CTECHi     2021-09-05
Globally, especially in my country and Europe, the market for 48V system solutions is expanding. Recently, Bosch has reached a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with CATL. According to the agreement, CATL will supply Bosch with a long-term stable supply of batteries, and will be responsible for the design, development and production of batteries for use in Bosch’s 48V batteries. At present, the first-generation Bosch 48V battery has been put into production in Wuxi at the end of 2018. The characteristic of this product is that the battery is simple and compact, and can be passively cooled. This means that automakers can easily integrate batteries into their own models, no longer need to be equipped with additional cooling devices, but also save time-consuming and expensive engineering development costs. Now Bosch 48V batteries have been widely used in many car manufacturers around the world. In addition to 48V batteries, Bosch is committed to ensuring that all models meet future emission requirements and supply cost-effective hybrid power. Its 48V system product portfolio also includes DC/DC converters and other system components such as motors. In Bosch's view, '48V hybrid power will definitely become the lowest standard in the future automotive market.' It is estimated that by 2025, nearly 20% of new cars sold worldwide will be equipped with 48V systems and supporting batteries. Bosch 48V battery In fact, in addition to this judgment, there are also many voices appearing in the industry: '48V technical solutions will be the future development trendFor example, the German Audi A8LI, Mercedes-Benz S500L, and the new Golf GTI all use the 48V light hybrid method. Many European brands even specify a 48V system. For example, Volvo will no longer produce pure fuel vehicles in 2019 and will apply the 48V system in a comprehensive layout. Next is our country. Forced by policy and patent restrictions, PHEV plug-in hybrid models were first developed in China. However, in the past two years, 48v technology applications have begun to increase. Geely, Changan, Chery, and BAIC are gradually introducing 48v light hybrid models. Among them, Geely launched the 48v model first. Its first 48v model, Borui MHEV, consumes 2L/100km lower than the ordinary fuel version of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This is obviously in line with the requirements of the domestic energy conservation and emission reduction policy. 'The 48V light hybrid system has small changes and low cost. It takes about 30% or 50% of the cost to achieve 70%-80% of the energy-saving effect of the deep-mix system. It is an energy-saving system with a relatively good cost performance at this stage.' Tsinghua University Automotive Song Jian, executive vice president of the Engineering Development Research Institute and deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy, said. With this wide recognition, relevant agencies predict that in the domestic market there will be more than 4 million cars equipped with 48V systems in 2023, accounting for about 13% of passenger car sales that year. From a global perspective, by 2025, the global annual output of 48V cars is expected to reach 14 million, of which about 8 million will be born in my country. For the moment, 'There are about a dozen projects in the country under development and production so far this year. Therefore, 48V is a very big trend. Now hundreds of thousands of 48V vehicles are installed, and in the future, it will even reach 10.5 million by 2025. The loading rate, so the market is very large and rising very fast.' Gu Jianmin of Valeo my country told Gaogong Electric Vehicles. With regard to the 48v system, my country has shown huge market potential. At present, in addition to the aforementioned Bosch, the important companies supplying the 48v system method include parts giants such as Valeo, Continental, and Delphi. Among them, Valeo has made it clear that 48v technology should be regarded as a long-term strategic product, rather than a short-term transition. Magna has even introduced a 7HDT300 dual-clutch gearbox with integrated 48v motor, which is fully adapted to the various hybrid methods of car companies. As component giants are investing energy and financial resources in 48v technology, it is worth mentioning that 48v technology is also iteratively upgraded. ▲The 48V system technology in the attack. The 48V system that everyone knows before is mainly a light hybrid of the P1 structure, that is, the BSG-inspired electric integrated machine is used to replace the traditional starter and generator to provide additional torque and deceleration when the vehicle starts and accelerates. Recover energy when moving. It is less involved in the electrification of the transmission system, and it is naturally impossible to achieve pure electric driving. However, the latest Continental announced a 48V30kW high-power drive system in Germany, using a water-cooled motor, which has more than doubled the drive power compared to the 48v micro-hybrid. At the same time, the integrated electronic control unit can handle higher current, and the power generation efficiency is increased by 10% compared with the previous system. The diameter of the motor has not changed significantly, only the installation space has been slightly increased, but the weight has been reduced. The biggest highlight of Continental’s 48v30kW high-power motor system is that the motor is no longer located in front of the engine, but placed behind the engine and between the transmission (P2 hybrid). This means that it can achieve pure electric drive. In pure electric mode, the vehicle speed can reach 80-90km/h. This is another hybrid technology route that can realize pure electric drive in addition to plug-in hybrid and Japanese full hybrid. And compared to the plug-in hybrid and the Japanese full hybrid, the 48v strong hybrid has advantages in structure, cost, and maintenance. Because the 48V system can save a lot of investment in insulation safety protection than the high-voltage system, and the power components are smaller and cheaper, and even the design can be much simpler, because the gap between individual components is smaller than that of the high-voltage technology, and it is installed at the same time Maintenance is more convenient. Continental said that the new system can also be used in plug-in hybrid or pure electric vehicles, which can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 20%. And we all know that the threshold for getting European tax subsidies is whether CO2 emissions can be reduced to less than 50 grams per kilometer; in my country, it goes without saying that energy saving and emission reduction will be the main theme of the automobile market in the future.
