Tesla 4680 battery can be charged to 80% in 15 minutes

At the 'Battery Technology Day' event held in September, Tesla announced a new power lithium battery-4680. The official claims that compared with the 2170 battery, the energy is increased by 5 times and the power capacity is increased by 6 times. After being applied to the Tesla car, it can increase the cruising range by 16%. Recently, foreign media insideevs analyzed the charging time and power of the Tesla 4680 battery. In order for the reader to understand the 4680 battery more intuitively, insideevs compared it with the 2170 battery currently used on the Tesla Model 3. Data shows that the 4680 battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes, which is 10 minutes faster than the current Tesla 2170 battery pack. If the user only needs to charge to 50%, it can be completed in just 7 minutes. This charging time is equivalent to the refueling time of a traditional fuel car. In terms of charging power, during the first 6 minutes of charging the 4680 battery pack, the battery's charging power has been maintained at 275kW, after which the charging power began to drop. Until fully charged, the charging power will remain at about 100kW. As a comparison, the maximum pure electric power of the 2170 battery is 250kW. After charging for 3 minutes, the power begins to decrease. After charging to 80%, the battery's power will even drop below 100kW. On the whole, the 4680 battery pack can be charged to 44% with a charging power of 275kW, and it can be charged to 50% while maintaining a charging power of 250kW. In contrast, after the 2170 battery is charged to 25%, the charging rate drops rapidly to 150kW until it drops below 100kW. It is understood that the Tesla 4680 battery uses laser-engraved electrodeless technology. The larger the size of the traditional power lithium battery cell, the higher the energy density, and the longer the range of the electric car. The disadvantage is that the heat is more difficult to control, and the tabs in the existing batteries are important components for the battery to generate heat. The structure of the stepless ear battery removes the important heating components of the battery, reduces the internal resistance, and makes it possible for higher energy batteries. According to Musk, Tesla plans to produce its own 100GWh power lithium battery in 2022, and the output will reach 3TWh in 2030. The battery will be produced in Berlin, Germany, excluding the procurement from its partners Panasonic, LG, and CATL.
