U.S. Patent Office exposure: Apple is developing folding batteries

Last week, foreign media said that Apple is developing folding technology. Recently, the U.S. Patent Office also verified this.

If you want to make a foldable mobile phone, both the battery and the screen of the mobile phone must meet the foldability. According to the US Patent Office, Apple is already Started preparing a foldable battery.

From the perspective of the international market, folding technology is one of the future trends in the development of mobile phones. Not only Apple is preparing, but Samsung and Huawei are also conducting related research and development.

Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a high-efficiency and low-cost zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitor

Recently, Tang Yongbing, researcher at the Functional Film Materials Research Center, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences The team successfully developed a new type of zinc ion hybrid supercapacitor, which has important reference significance for the study of new energy storage devices based on multivalent carriers.

In order to alleviate the resource shortage and environmental pollution caused by the extensive use of fossil energy, various countries are accelerating the use of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy, water conservancy, and tidal energy. However, renewable energy has very obvious intermittent characteristics, and it is necessary to develop low-cost and high-efficiency energy storage technology to cooperate with it. The currently widely used lithium-ion battery is an excellent electrochemical energy storage technology, but the reserves of lithium resources are very limited and the distribution is extremely uneven, resulting in the high cost of lithium-ion batteries and the difficulty of recycling, which limits their large-scale Widely used in the field of energy storage. The development of new electrochemical energy storage devices based on low cost and easy recovery has important research value and application prospects.

Accordingly, Tang Yongbing team members Wang Heng, Wang Meng and others have developed a new type of high-efficiency and low-cost hybrid supercapacitor based on +2 valent zinc ion as the active carrier. The device integrates the design of cheap zinc foil, and at the same time uses it as the negative electrode active material and current collector. The environmentally-friendly biomass activated carbon is used as the positive electrode, and the organic solvent dissolved in zinc salt is used as the electrolyte. The zinc ion is reduced in the negative electrode. /Oxidation reaction and the adsorption/desorption reaction of anions on the positive electrode to realize the reversible charge and discharge of the capacitor. The reserves of zinc are abundant, and the ions are +2 valence, which enables the hybrid supercapacitors based on zinc ions to obtain high energy density while maintaining the advantages of low cost and easy recovery. After system optimization, this zinc ion hybrid supercapacitor has achieved excellent electrochemical performance: at a power density of 1,725W/kg, the energy density is higher than 52Wh/kg; and after 22,000 cycles, the capacity retention rate is higher than 91%. Large-scale energy storage in the field of renewable clean energy has good application prospects.

Related research results are titled A Novel Zinc-Ion Hybrid Supercapacitor for Long-Life and Low-Cost Energy Storage Applications and published in Energy Storage Materials, a journal in the field of energy storage materials. This research was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Guangdong Science and Technology Plan Project, and the Shenzhen Science and Technology Plan Project.

U.S. university research team developed a scalable biofuel cell

Recently, a team of engineers at the University of California, San Diego developed a scalable biofuel cell that can be removed from sweat Extract energy to power electronic products such as LEDs and Bluetooth adapters.

This type of battery consists of a row of dots, and each dot is connected to each other by a spring-shaped structure. Half of the dots make up the anode of the battery, and the other half make up the cathode. This spring-like structure can be stretched and bent, so that the battery has flexibility, and does not damage the anode and cathode.

Biofuel cells have an enzyme that can oxidize the lactic acid present in human sweat to generate electricity, thereby turning sweat into an energy source. In order to increase the energy density, engineers used screen printing to build a three-dimensional carbon nanotube structure on top of the anode and cathode. This structure allows engineers to load more enzymes for each anode point, which can react with lactic acid and silver oxide at the cathode point to generate electricity.

Compared with the existing wearable biofuel cells, the new biofuel cell generates 10 times more energy per unit surface area. In the future, it is expected to power a series of wearable military equipment.
