Toyota Motor and Shell launch zero-emission hydrogen fuel-powered battery freight project

According to foreign media reports, Toyota Motor North America is cooperating with PortofLosAngeles, Kenworth and Shell to launch a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell freight project aimed at supplying powertrain technology and corresponding Operational support. Toyota plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions at its Toyota Logistics Center in Long Beach Port by 2050, which is consistent with the original intention of the upcoming hydrogen fuel cell project. At the end of July this year, Toyota demonstrated its next-generation ProjectPortal 2.0 hydrogen-powered 8-level truck at the North Michigan Automotive Research Center (CAR) management briefing seminar, further demonstrating Toyota's determination to develop hydrogen fuel-powered cell technology. Toyota Motor stated in a statement on September 14 that the company will cooperate with Kenworth to develop ten zero-emission hydrogen fuel-powered battery trucks. Toyota spokesman brian Lyons said to foreign media that the company will supply fuel-powered battery packs, batteries and motors for the Kenworth Class 8 trucks. It is reported that Kenworth is a subsidiary of American truck manufacturer Paccar Inc. (Paccar Inc.). The Port of Los Angeles said on September 14 that the company has initially received a US$41 million grant from the California Air Resources Board to develop the project. It is predicted that the project will help reduce 465 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the cost of the first phase of the project is approximately US$82.6 million, of which 50.2% will be supplied by partners. The grant application shows that the project will 'implement localized direct emission reduction measures in designated disadvantaged communitiesThe application also pointed out that Toyota Logistics Services, which is responsible for Toyota's North American logistics, will operate the zero-emission forklift business and supervise Toyota Transport, Toyota's self-operated transportation company, which will be responsible for the business operations of hydrogen fuel-powered battery trucks. The application was drafted jointly by the four partners, but the Port of Los Angeles was listed as an important applicant. Brian Lyons said that the partners hope that the California Air Resources Board will formally allocate this amount before the end of the year. The second phase of the project plans to build two hydrogen fuel stations in Ontario and Wilmington, which will be operated by Shell. The new hydrogen refueling station will form a hydrogen supply network with Toyota’s three hydrogen fuel stations near Los Angeles to help deliver goods from “shore to store”. The final phase of the project will use zero-emission technology in off-road vehicles and warehouse facilities. For example, two zero-emissionyard tractors will be put into service at the Port of Hueneme, 65 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
