According to Japan’s Kyodo News Agency on May 16, Japan’s Saitama Prefecture Industrial Technology Comprehensive Center announced on the 15th that it had completed a trial product of a magnesium storage battery that is highly anticipated as a next-generation battery. It is said that it is the first time in the world to make a battery of the same kind that can be actually used at room temperature. The center stated that it will be more compact and increase capacity as a product, and plans to promote joint development with multiple manufacturers in the future. According to the center, there are two kinds of prototypes, which are envisaged to be used in smart phones, laptops, wearable devices, etc. The current mainstream lithium-ion batteries are expensive and difficult to ensure, and there is a danger of fire. Therefore, the development of a new generation of batteries to replace lithium-ion batteries is advancing globally. It is said that magnesium batteries are expected to be processed at a low price, and there is the possibility that the capacity may even exceed that of lithium-ion batteries. The director of the center Masahiro Nakamura said: 'It is expected that some electronic devices will replace lithium-ion (batteries) in the future.' Saitama Prefecture was commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan. Start the research formally. The technology was established in 2015, and the development of prototypes was promoted with Fujikura Rubber Industry (located in Tokyo).
