Bentley electric cars or use solid-state battery technology

by:CTECHi     2021-09-28
Bentley is an excellent luxury car brand, and no one will ask Bentley to process and manufacture electric vehicles, but the layout of the Volkswagen Group on electric vehicles is really puzzling, and Bentley is expected to become an important participant in electric vehicles. First of all, the future bentleyElectric will use the Group's PremiumPlatformElectric (PPE) architecture. What's more interesting is that Bentley executives are talking about solid-state batteries with changed energy density, because solid-state batteries can better help Bentley redesign electric cars that can mean the future. How can condensed solid-state battery technology help the brand redefine future vehicle design? Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark said that compared with lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries are about 30% lighter. They can carry more energy under the same weight and bring longer cruising range to vehicles. Moreover, the volume of solid-state batteries is much smaller than that of lithium-ion batteries, so there is no need to take up more space to ensure the comfort of riding in the car. In June 2018, Volkswagen invested 100 million US dollars in QuantumScape, a solid-state battery start-up company. The company said it hopes to establish a solid-state battery processing line by 2025. Automakers such as BMW, General Motors, Hyundai and Toyota are also pursuing solid-state batteries, which are expected to increase the mileage of electric vehicles by about double. Last month, Tim Grewe, General Motors’ global electrification and battery systems chief, stated that solid-state batteries have not “success” yet, but they “look very promising and we are developing them as soon as possible.”
