SKI intends to expand power lithium battery plants in the United States and Hungary

On January 10, according to foreign media reports, the CEO of South Korea SKI said that the company plans to establish a second electric vehicle battery plant in the United States and is considering expanding an electric vehicle battery plant in Hungary. He expects that more Asian battery manufacturers will process batteries in the United States and meet local car manufacturers' demand for power lithium batteries. SKI has established the first power lithium battery plant in Georgia, USA. It is estimated that the annual output will reach 20GWh by 2025, and the first phase will have an annual output of 10GWh. The project will be completed in 2021 and will supply batteries to Volkswagen's plant in the United States. . The output of its second plant in Georgia may be 10GWh, but SKI declined to say which automaker it will supply. In addition, the second plant currently under construction is expanded in Hungary to increase the supply of power lithium batteries to Volkswagen. The plant's initial production plan is 10GWh, but it may be increased to 16GWh. SKI also plans to process the third-generation battery of its 811 system in Hungary. A few days ago, the battery joint venture company established by SKI and BAIC Motor-Nortel Aest (Jiangsu) Technology Co., Ltd., located in Jintan Economic Development Zone, Changzhou City, was officially completed and put into production. The plant has an annual output of 7.5GWh. After Nortel Aste was put into production, SKI's battery output reached approximately 12.2GWh, of which Ruishan Battery Plant's output was 4.7GWh. After the plant in Komárom, Hungary is completed and put into production, SKI's battery output will increase to 19.7GWh. The goal is to achieve a lithium-ion battery output of more than 100GWh by 2025. At present, SKI has become a battery supplier for Daimler, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Ferrari and other international car companies, and is in contact with other OEMs to discuss cooperation. It is worth mentioning that although SKI holds great expectations about the global power lithium battery market competition, and the expansion speed is accelerating, it also has to face the pressure from the old power lithium battery giants.
