ITC supports SKI and LG Energy battery patents

Foreign media reported that the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled on SKI in battery patents against LG Energy and SKI. It is understood that LG Energy proposed its four battery patent technologies to SKI in September 2019, and it is separate from LG Energy’s proposal of stealing its battery trade secrets from SKI. This means that SKI is still facing the future. Penalties of being prohibited from selling batteries, modules, and battery packs in the United States for 10 years. In its preliminary decision, ITC stated that in a case filed by LG Energy in September 2019, SKI did not have any of LG Energy’s four US battery patents. 'USITC ruled that three of the four LG energy patents were invalid.' SK said that the ruling proved SKI's independence in battery technology. In this regard, LG Energy stated that the ITC’s ruling merely stated that certain items were invalid, and did not mean that the patent was invalid. 'In the rest of the legal process, we will try our best to prove the infringement and validity of the patent.' At the same time, LG Energy particularly emphasized that it should be completely separated from the ongoing battery trade secrets of SKI. On February 10 this year, ITC made a final ruling on the trade secrets between LG Energy and SKI: SKI is prohibited from selling batteries, modules, and battery packs in the United States for the next 10 years. The ban may endanger SKI's $2.6 billion battery plant under construction in Georgia. In response, SKI stated on March 30 that if U.S. President Biden does not overturn the ruling before April 11, the company is considering withdrawing its battery business from the United States.
