Thailand will build 8GWh lithium-ion battery plant

Introduction: An electric car company and a business park operator in Florida have pledged to invest up to US$1 billion in the planned plant in Chonburi, starting with the 1GWh portion that may take shape in 2023. According to the partners behind it, the first phase of the 8GWh lithium-ion battery plant planned to be established in Thailand is 1GWh, costing US$143 million, and may be completed and operational in 2023. The Florida-based electric vehicle company Evlomo Inc and the Japanese-Thailand business park operator Rojana Industrial Park Public Co., Ltd. have announced plans to invest up to US$1.06 billion in the joint venture to establish gigagfab, and Rojana (itself a joint venture) has been established Invest 55% of the shares. A press release on the plan issued by Evolomo stated that the first phase of the plant in NongYai, Chonburi province is expected to break ground this year, and the construction of the first phase is expected to take 18-24 months. This leaves a small possibility for the start of production next year, although the production line is more likely to start in 2023. Evlomo said the plant will produce batteries for two- and four-wheeled vehicles, including buses and heavy vehicles, and will also produce unspecified 'energy storage solutions.' The US-based electric car company said that the gigabit plant will be located in the Eastern Economic Corridor Special Economic Zone, which spans three provinces in eastern Thailand and will create more than 3,000 jobs. Kanit Sangsubhan, Secretary General of the Office of the Eastern Economic Corridor, said: “This investment will play an important role in Thailand’s EV (Electric Vehicle) industry. We look forward to Thailand becoming a leader in the development, manufacturing and adoption of advanced energy storage and electric vehicle technologies throughout Southeast Asia. Global Center.'
