BAK launches new power lithium battery that can last 500 kilometers

In this competition to increase the energy density of power lithium batteries, Shenzhen BAK Power Lithium Battery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as BAK Battery) has taken another big step. On May 16, BAK Battery launched a mass-produced 18650-3.0Ah battery cell with an energy density of nearly 250Wh/kg, which can support a range of 500 kilometers for pure electric passenger cars. BAK battery technicians said that if the daily commuting distance is 35 kilometers, driving an electric car equipped with this battery will ideally only need to charge twice a month. The negative electrode material of the battery adopts silicon-carbon composite crystal, and the positive electrode material adopts high nickel positive electrode material. 'The 3.0Ah battery cell can reduce the cost at the system level while increasing the energy density.' said Wang Pan, vice president of BAK Battery. He gave an example to reporters that the same battery pack originally required ten 2.7Ah batteries, but now only nine 3Ah batteries, which reduces the material cost at the system level to a certain extent. In addition, high-energy density batteries and lightweight structure design help to increase the vehicle's cruising range. At present, the annual output of BAK 3.0Ah high-energy batteries is 6.5GWh, and the daily output is 2 million. As of the end of 2017, BAK Battery's power lithium battery output was 8GWh. The installed capacity in 2017 was 1.71GWh, ranking fifth in my country's power lithium battery installed capacity rankings. Energy density refers to the amount of energy stored in a certain space or mass matter. The energy density of power lithium batteries has become a key indicator for the development of power lithium battery companies. The new energy vehicle subsidy policy introduced in February of this year puts forward new requirements for battery density. The threshold of subsidy for the energy density of pure electric passenger cars is raised from 90Wh/kg to 105Wh/kg, and the threshold for the energy density of pure electric passenger cars is raised from 85Wh/kg to 115Wh/kg. According to the plan of 'my country's Automobile Industry Medium and Long-term Development Plan'In terms of energy density, BAK batteries are at the same level as those of Japanese and Korean battery companies, but in terms of products, Panasonic and Samsung are currently able to achieve 3.35Ah levels. We still have half a year of technology gap.' Cao Hanche, deputy general manager of Zhengzhou BAK Quality Center, said. According to Wang Pan's analysis, BAK Battery is currently the only company in China that can achieve a production capacity of 250Wh/kg batteries. In the second half of the year, a 3.35Ah product will be launched. By then, the single energy density can reach 270wh/kg. 'The energy density of 300Wh/kg is basically difficult to achieve in the 18650 system.' Li Yanbin, chief engineer of BAK battery cylindrical battery technology, said frankly that BAK battery will seek breakthroughs in energy density indicators on the 21700 products. She said that the 21700 products have completed the development of the laboratory stage, but it will take some time before mass production. The diameter of the 18650 battery is 18 mm and the height is 65 mm; the diameter of the 21,700 battery is 21 mm and the height is 70 mm. Compared with the former, the energy density can be increased by about 35%. According to data released by Tesla in 2017, the energy density of the processed 21700 battery cells has reached about 300Wh/kg, and the unit cost of the battery system can be reduced by 9%. Previously, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of CATL, said that the technical level of my country's power lithium battery companies has reached the level of Japan and South Korea. At the end of 2016, CATL launched the 'New Generation Lithium-ion Power Lithium Battery Industrialization Technology Development' project. It plans to significantly increase the specific energy of lithium-ion power lithium batteries from 150-180Wh/kg to 300Wh/ Above kg. In addition, the energy density of BYD and Waterma's ternary power lithium battery also broke through 200Wh/kg last year.
